Poetry is the language of the soul, and, thus, its beauty can never be embellished. Love poems are a wonderfully romantic gesture and can often express your thoughts far more eloquently than verbal communication.
They can simply point at the universal values in life, and at our relationship to these. If you were very close to the person who died and you are expected to stand up in church or at the graveside to recite a poem, make sure that you have a supporter. Simple and soothing words acknowledging a loss, accompanied by a meaningful sympathy or condolence poem can touch a heart like nothing else can.
In most cases, there will be no problem with putting pretty wedding poetry into the proceedings. Some of them are exclusively oriented towards love poetry. It's a nice balance to have a poem at the beginning, one or two in the middle and one at the end of the ceremony, as a guide.
Many families and friends choose to write their own poems or essays about the deceased to have read at memorial services or posted on online memorial sites. Poetry can do amazing things.
